To Create my own printable vinyl nativity set, I first went out to the internet and found a free printable nativity set which was a six page printable. Here is page 1 opened up in silhouette Studio:
Notice that I have the registration marks turned on so that the Cameo can cut exactly where I want it to. In the second picture, I have moved the image out of the way so that you can see that I have created a cut line for the images.
So, then I just print and cut using my inkjet printer and Silhouette Cameo and repeat this process for all of the pieces of the nativity. Now at this point you could place all of the pieces on a serving tray, or on your wall or door or in your kids’ room. But I chose to make it more 3 dimensional and I put all of the pieces onto a board and then cut them out with a band saw. Some of you may not have access to these tools, but if you do, it is a fun, kid-friendly nativity set you can make.
Today, I made a puzzle for my friend’s son’s birthday. All I did was find a fun picture to print on vinyl. In this case, I chose a picture of the Flying Tigers because he loves airplanes. Then, I printed it out and stuck the picture on a piece of wood. I used 3/4″ MDF because that’s what I had, so you could use whatever you have. This project involved some power tools, so it was a lot of fun! I cut the board to the size of the picture using a table saw, then I used a band saw to cut out the shapes of the puzzle. I only cut it into 9 roughly square shapes so that it wouldn’t be too hard for him to do. After I had my pieces, I inked the edges of each piece just to give it a little bit on an antique look.
For this project, I took a plain clear reusable to go cup and customized it with printable vinyl. I created several different images to show you how unlimited the possibilities are when customizing your own to go cup!
The first picture is of an entire sheet of images that I printed on vinyl, then cut out with my silhouette sd cutter to be used on my to go cups (the Steelers logos are for a future project–Pine Wood Derby Car). The second picture is of the cow on my to go cup. The third picture is my personalized to go cup with a mountain dew logo that I printed out myself on my inkjet printer.
If you need help finding images, just go to Google, and search images for whatever you’re looking for. There are millions of images on the internet that you can print out on your printable vinyl, just right click on the image, then click save image as, and you’ve got a picture you can print out!
Here is a Lobster cup! And a recycle symbol on top surrounding the straw hole. The last picture is of an owl (note the back of the lobster on the other side of the cup)
These images were all printed on printable vinyl using an HP inkjet printer from WalMart. The printable vinyl we use is made for the commercial sign industry, so it is made to withstand far more than the average hobbyist like me will ever put it through. I have had great success with this vinyl. If you have any questions about using printable vinyl, send me a comment, and I will reply ASAP! One more thing: when you decide you want to re-decorate your to go cup, you can just peel off the old design, and stick on the new one!
In this project, I used a magnetic white board. I then printed out the months and days of the week, and days of the month on Printable Vinyl, then I stuck the ones that need to be rearranged each month on magnets so they would be easily movable. I used strips of plain black cricut vinyl to create the grid of the calendar. It went from one plain dry erase board to a fun calendar that is good all year round with the help of printable vinyl!!
In this wedding project, I took an ordinary bottle of water, and peeled off the label. I then measured that label so that I would be able to make a label exactly that size to replace it. Open up whichever software you prefer to use to create your printable vinyl projects and create a template that is the size of your original label. Then you can decorate the label however you wish. I made this for a wedding luncheon. Yours could be for a birthday party, or fund raiser, or business lunch, or a handout at a parade for your business. The great thing about this label is that it is waterproof if you use the printable vinyl available here.
I took my printable vinyl and created little 3/4″ disks to place on the bottom of Hershey’s kisses. These wedding favors are so much fun, and a great way to personalize your wedding for only a few cents a piece including the hershey’s kiss. The best way to create these disks is using the Silhouette Studio software. In it you can easily create a highly personalized label that could have the couple’s picture, or favorite place, or cute sayings, or the date and time and place of the wedding. It’s only limited by your imagination. Then, you print out a sheet of them and use the Silhouette SD to cut them out. You will have a lot of fun creating your own custom wedding favors, or help your friend with her wedding. Don’t limit yourself to Hershey’s kisses, this idea is great with any small treat!
You can create a small label with printable vinyl to make your own bubbles to hand out at your wedding.
At the dollar store, I was able to find these cute little blank cardboard boxes that came in a pack of several boxes. I measured the box and created a label using my software that was the size I measured, then printed it out and cut it out using a pair of scissors. I then placed the label on the side of the box and have created a personalized gift box to fill with wedding favors for all of the guests. I was able to make these boxes for just a few cents a piece.
I took a small tin from the dollar store and created my own round label using Silhouette Studio software. Then I printed it out and cut it on my silhouette. You could cut it out with a pair of scissors. Then all I had to do is peel and stick the labels onto the mint tins. You could then fill the tins with anything you want including mints. These are great for a handout at a wedding luncheon, or perhaps you could use them at a bridal shower or even a baby shower.
